Eastern Frontier in Flames
(Season of Mist / Underground Activists)

Eastern Frontier in Flames is a compilation of the band’s 2007 Anti-Urban and 2010 Slavonic Chronicles EPs, along with their split with Winterfylleth. Due to the relative popularity of the band within black metal circles and smaller sized pressing runs, the first two releases are fairly hard to obtain. In an effort to make these deeper cuts and covers more accessible, Season of Mist are releasing them together. In addition to the excellent covers found on the Winterfylleth split (which you can find a review of here), the hypnotic original tracks “Fallen Into Oblivion” and “Ashes” can be found alongside their older covers of Master’s Hammer’s “Indianska Pisen Hruzy” and Sacrilegium’s “Tam Gdzie Gasnie Dzien.” The first of the two original tracks is an instrumental and features mesmerizing guitar work akin to Burzum’s post-prison output. “Ashes” is more melancholic and contains the pained growls that we have come to know and love. “Indianska Pisen Hruzy” and “Tam Gdzie Gasnie Dzien,” being newer, posess higher production values, and are fantastic renditions of the originals. This collection is a great release for any fan looking to some of the band’s rarer songs to their library. (Jacob Katsiaficas)
